Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss Euro 2020 after scans confirmed a thigh injury.
The 22-year-old England international went down injured late on in their friendly with Austria and was helped to the dressing room.
It is now believed he will need six weeks to recover from the injury, ruling him out of any part in the impending European Championship.
He’s inclusion in the squad had been a huge talking point given he would be one of four right-backs in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
The Liverpool man was looking unlikely to start at the tournament with Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker set to start.
But nonetheless it’s a huge blow for club and country.
After the Austria clash, Southgate was asked who would get the call if the 22-year-old was ruled out.
He replied: “Let’s see how Trent is first then we’ll go from there.”
But Ben Godfey, Ben White, Jesse Lingard, Ollie Watkins, and James Ward-Prowse are all available to him.
The five outfield players were cut from England’s provisional squad earlier this week but one is set to be handed a reprieve.
This is a breaking news story. More updates will follow shortly.
