Billy Gilmour has to start for Scotland at Euro 2020, Charlie Adam believes.
The Chelsea midfielder is yet to make his full debut for his country with just two appearances from the bench so far.
Adam claims Gilmour, who has played just 225 minutes of Premier League football since January, is ‘one of the best technical players’ Scotland have ever had.
The Dundee captain, who won 26 caps for Scotland, told talkSPORT: “He’s a top player, he’s brilliant. I’ve said he should play.
“He’s one of the best technical players we’ve had in a long time.
“People say he is inexperienced with his playing time, but we’ve been saying that about Phil Foden for two years.
“He was training with top players for two years, so he was learning all the time. Billy’s the same.
“In the 15, 20-minute spell he had the other night, he did more than the lads who played 60 minutes.
“He was able to drive forward, go by people, see a pass and I think he’s a definite starter [at Euro 2020].”
Gilmour was brought on as a half-time substitute against Luxembourg on Sunday, but had to be withdrawn in the 76th minute following a dangerous-looking clash with Olivier Thill.
However, the 19-year-old has recovered and looks set to be in contention to make his full Scotland debut in their Euro 2020 opener against Czech Republic on Monday.
Gilmour has been linked with a loan move from Chelsea in a bid to improve his playing time.
The Sun claim Gilmour is considering following in the footsteps of Mason Mount, who spent a season-long loan with Derby in the Championship, before returning to Chelsea and becoming a first-team regular.
